The Santhwanam Green Auto Project is an innovative livelihood and social welfare initiative of Santhwanam – Social Action Centre, Archdiocese of Thrissur, designed to promote sustainable employment, compassionate healthcare support, and environmental responsibility. The project empowers economically disadvantaged families by providing CNG-powered auto-rickshaws, enabling them to earn a stable livelihood while serving the community.

Launched as a unique blend of social entrepreneurship and environmental stewardship, the project demonstrates how dignified employment can be integrated with compassionate service to vulnerable people.

തൃശൂർ അതിരൂപതയുടെ സോഷ്യൽ ആക്ഷൻ സെന്ററായ സാന്ത്വനത്തിന്റെ ഒരു നൂതന സാമൂഹികക്ഷേമ പദ്ധതിയാണ് 'ഗ്രീൻ ഓട്ടോ'. സാമ്പത്തികമായി പിന്നോക്കം നിൽക്കുന്ന കുടുംബങ്ങൾക്ക് സി.എൻ.ജി ഓട്ടോറിക്ഷകൾ നൽകുന്നതിലൂടെ അവർക്ക് സുസ്ഥിരമായ ഉപജീവനമാർഗ്ഗം ഉറപ്പാക്കാനും അതോടൊപ്പം സമൂഹത്തിന് മാതൃകാപരമായ സേവനം നൽകാനും ഈ പദ്ധതി ലക്ഷ്യമിടുന്നു.

For patients undergoing regular dialysis and chemotherapy, transportation costs often become an overwhelming burden. Through this initiative, Green Auto beneficiaries voluntarily extend transportation assistance to patients requiring frequent hospital visits.

Environmental Commitment

The Green Auto Project promotes the use of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) as a cleaner alternative to conventional fuels. By reducing carbon emissions and air pollution, the initiative contributes to environmental conservation and aligns with global efforts to combat climate change.

One of the strengths of the Green Auto Project is its participatory development model. Beneficiaries become active partners rather than passive recipients. Future Expansion

Building on its proven success, Santhwanam plans to expand the project by introducing 25 additional Green Autos. This expansion will:

• Generate employment for 25 more vulnerable families.
• Extend transportation assistance to more kidney, cancer, and chronically ill patients.
• Increase the use of environmentally friendly vehicles across the district.
• Strengthen community participation through a cost-sharing partnership model involving beneficiaries, local supporters, and donor agencies.
